The City of Louisville adopted its first preservation master plan in October 2015. This plan prioritizes actions the city can take to help preservation efforts in Louisville. One of the recommendations was the development of three historic reports documenting Louisville's history: Louisville’s residential development; Louisville’s commercial development; and Louisville’s agricultural, railroad, and mining origins. This project was approved in 2016 and finalized in 2018.

In 2023, PaleoWest completed another survey project, "100 Architectural Inventories for the City of Louisville," which includes a summary report and 100 surveys of properties in Louisville. The 100 properties represent recommendations from the three historic contexts above and high-priority properties identified by the City and the Louisville Historical Musuem. All but one of the properties (the Louisville Lateral Ditch) are privately owned and all are located within the current boundary of Louisville.
