General Information

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (RMMA) is located at 11755 Airport Way in the City and County of Broomfield. RMMA is owned and operated by Jefferson County and situated midway between Denver and Boulder along US 36.

RMMA is the 4th busiest airport in Colorado. To learn more about the airport and how it benefits the region, please visit the RMMA website at https://www.jeffco.us/airport.

In 2019, RMMA released updated noise abatement procedures to lessen the impact of aircraft activity on adjacent neighborhoods. If you have questions about the noise abatement procedures, please contact RMMA staff at 303-271-4854.

The City of Louisville does not own or operate any airports.

Noise Complaints

If you have been affected by noise from RMMA, please call the noise complaint line at 303.271.4874 or complete an online complaint form at https://www.jeffco.us/1697/Noise-Complaint-Online-Form.

When calling, please provide the address, city, subdivision, date, and time of each excessive airport noise occurrence, type of aircraft, and, if possible, type of operation (takeoff, landing, training). Please report complaints soon after the occurrence. Email complaints are not accepted.

Complaints that include swearing, vulgarity, or threatening remarks will not be logged.

You can also submit noise complaints by visiting the FAA Noise Portal at https://noise.faa.gov/noise/pages/noise.html.

Safety Concerns

Airport Advisory Board

The Airport Advisory Board advises the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners regarding airport matters, serves as a feedback mechanism regarding the airport, building awareness of the airport and its importance in the economic health of the region, developing airport advocacy and ensuring good neighbor practices by the airport. Members include two neighboring business owners, two Jefferson County citizens, one neighboring residential property owner, one neighboring jurisdiction and one airport tenant.

You can find the dates for upcoming meetings in the RMMA Updates Newsletter, which you can subscribe to at https://www.jeffco.us/3590/RMMA-Updates-Newsletter. You can find meeting agendas at https://www.jeffco.us/3933/Airport-Advisory-Board.

Louisville/Superior Noise Mitigation Study

Aircraft overflights and noise are a growing concern for residents. You can view the airport's typical traffic pattern operations map here. In 2019 Louisville partnered with Superior to hire a consulting team with specialized experience in working with communities and airports to address aircraft noise issues. The consultants reviewed current conditions, flight procedures, airspace and land uses around RMMA to identify practices and procedures aimed at reducing impacts to both communities.

The following work during Phase I of the project:

  • Completed baseline assessment to understand current conditions and identify opportunities for improvement. You can read the baseline assessment here. You can also read Frequently Asked Questions.
  • Conducted community engagement, including an online survey on the impact of airport noise and potential solutions and an open house to share draft strategies and solicit feedback from residents.
  • Held meetings with the airport and FAA traffic control tower personnel and conducted a flight training forum to engage industry stakeholders and encourage participation in the process.
  • Assisted in the formation of the Airport Noise Task Force to vet potential solutions and keep efforts moving forward with airport staff and tenants.
  • Developed updated noise abatement procedures with the Airport Noise Task Force to lessen the impact of aircraft activity on adjacent neighborhoods.
  • Developed recommended strategies intended to reduce noise impacts on the communities.

Phase II of the project kicked off in 2020. The scope of work for this phase includes:

    • Prioritizing noise abatement strategies and advocating for implementation. You can view the prioritized list here.
    • Continuing to participate on the RMMA Noise Task Force advocating for City/Town priorities.
    • Expanding and strengthening relationships with RMMA industry/tenants in an effort to promote compliance with noise mitigation measures.
    • Encouraging industry awareness/training with a focus on aircraft noise impacts and implementation of policies, practices and procedures in alignment with City/Town priorities.
    • Encouraging community awareness of airport impacts and providing information on policies, practices and procedures to the public.
    • Advocating for City/Town priorities through Community Noise Roundtable and helping facilitate submittal of recommended practices/procedures to FAA for approval.
