CONSTRUCTION CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
MARK IT - All assets on a construction site should be marked and inventoried. Tools and materials should have a distinct logo or marking displayed on them. This will help with identification if stolen, damaged, or lost.
LOCK IT - Tools and materials should be secured when not in use. When vehicular equipment is not in use, their cabs should be locked and ignition keys removed. Oil and gas tank caps should be locked. Machines can be disabled with hidden ignition cutout switches.
LIGHT IT - The effective use of lighting can be an effective deterrent to theft and vandalism on the construction job site. It is particularly effective in deterring the casual or impulse offender. Temporary solar motion lighting can be used during the construction process.
SURVEIL IT - “No Trespassing” signs should be prominently displayed. GPS tracking can be utilized on larger items, trailers, and machinery. You should also consider motion activated security cameras.
