A Parks Usage Permit is permission to use a park space that would normally violate the municipal code. Some activities prohibited in Louisville Parks per Section 14 of the City of Louisville Municipal Code include:
- Commercial use: engaging in business, conducting sales for profit, selling merchandise or distributing flyers.
- Use of amplified sound or loud noises.
- Projectiles such as drones, firearms and fireworks.
- Operating a motor vehicle.
- Recreational activity restrictions such as hang gliding, skiing or metal detecting.
- Use or consumption of alcoholic beverages.
If you reserve and pay for a shelter rental, you will receive a permit to use the shelter on your designated date and time. The permit allows you the exclusive use of the shelter and allows you some exceptions to the rules of the code, such as moderate serving of alcohol.
If you do not wish to rent a shelter, but you wish to use a section of a public park for a private activity, then you will need to complete and submit a Parks Usage Permit (see below). Some examples include: holding a yoga class in which you have charged a fee, playing live music, holding a day camp activity or a private school field trip.
Large events are required to submit a Special Events Permit through the City Clerk’s office.
