Protect Wildlife: Don’t Leave Your Fishing Line Behind
Discarded fishing line is more than just trash—it's a silent killer, lurking in our waters and shorelines, endangering the lives of countless creatures. Monofilament fishing line, renowned for its durability and strength, stands as a preferred option among anglers. However, its long-lasting impact on the environment, taking roughly 600 years to break down, poses significant threats to both wildlife and ecosystems. Imagine a bird getting caught in the line, unable to fly or even move. This predicament can lead to dire consequences, including starvation, inability to defend themselves, injuries, or fatalities.
Anglers hold the power to make a difference:
- Never leave fishing line behind. Always pick it up and dispose of it properly.
- Help by picking up discarded fishing line, even if it's not yours.
- Properly dispose of used fishing lines in a trash receptacle.
- Educate others about the consequences of irresponsible practices.
Additionally, take proactive measures:
- Proactively replace fishing lines to prevent deterioration and minimize risks to wildlife and the environment.
- Efficiently recover snagged fishing lines promptly to minimize littering and reduce risks to wildlife and habitats.
- Immediately report any injured or tangled wildlife to facilitate timely intervention and conservation efforts.
By taking these actions, anglers can mitigate the adverse effects of discarded fishing lines, preserving ecosystems and protecting vulnerable wildlife for generations to come.
We are excited to partner with BoatU.S. Foundation and Berkley to bring fishing line recycling bins to our lakes, promoting a cleaner and more sustainable environment for everyone.
