To provide a fully accessible and optimized user experience for all website visitors, the City has partnered with UserWay, an assistive technology company that provides website accessibility tools to individuals with disabilities, enabling them to navigate, interact, and complete website tasks. In addition, UserWay helps websites meet digital compliance guidelines as set by the American Disabilities Act (ADA), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and other regulations.
For the user, UserWay provides a comprehensive accessibility menu that allows users to customize their experience to meet their individual needs, including:
  • Big Cursor — Enlarging the mouse cursor
  • Reading Mask — Helps users to better follow along where they are reading
  • Bigger Text — Enlarges text on the page
  • Text Spacing — Adjusts the spacing between letters, which can make text easier for some to read
  • Contrast — Provides different modes of color contrast for those with varying types of color blindness
  • Dyslexia Friendly — Switches text to a font which is more readable for people with dyslexia
  • Screen Reader — Reads aloud all page contents without needing to install an external screen reader
  • Highlight Links — Highlights clickable items for easier site usability, navigation, and overall accessibility

The accessibility menu can be enabled by clicking/pressing the accessibility icon that appears in the bottom corner of the page. After triggering the accessibility menu, please wait a moment for the accessibility menu to load in its entirety.

On the backend, this tool constantly scans the site for accessibility errors. It helps immediately remediate identified issues from a website administration perspective and allows the City's website to conform to the informative guidance provided by WCAG 2.1 AA.
