The City of Louisville, Colorado has narrowed the search for its next Chief of Police to four candidates: Alice Cary, Jeff Fisher, Deric Gress, and Rafael Gutierrez.
The public is invited to attend a community reception with the four finalists on Thursday, April 20 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Louisville Recreation & Senior Center (900 W. Via Appia). This reception will provide the public with the opportunity to meet the finalists and ask questions in an informal setting. Comment cards will be available that evening for citizens who wish to offer input regarding the finalists. This information will be compiled and provided to City Manager Jeff Durbin for consideration during the selection process. Light refreshments will be served. Louisville’s Chief of Police is hired by the City Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and administration of the Louisville Police Department. Following the interview process, Durbin anticipates extending a formal job offer to the selected candidate.
The executive search firm of KRW Associates was engaged by the City to conduct a nationwide search for its new Chief of Police. This search attracted 29 applicants from across the country, who were then narrowed down to the four finalists selected.
City of Louisville Chief of Police Finalists
Alice Cary – St. Joseph, Ill.
Alice Cary currently serves as the Chief of Police for the University of Illinois Department of Public Safety. She previously served as the Police Chief for the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department and the Police Captain for the University of Oregon Police Department. Cary holds a master’s degree in criminal justice management from Colorado Technical University and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Ferris State University.
Jeff Fisher – Loveland, Colo.
Jeff Fisher currently serves as the Interim Chief of Police for the City of Louisville Police Department and was previously the Deputy Chief of Police for the City. Prior to Louisville, he spent much of his career with the Loveland Police Department in various roles with increasing levels of responsibility. Fisher is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff & Command and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University.
Deric Gress – Fairplay, Colo.
Deric Gress currently serves at the Assistant Chief of Police for the City of Breckenridge Police Department. He previously served as a criminal investigator for the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Breckenridge, Colorado and the Lieutenant of Operations for the Ypsilanti Police Department in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Gress is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, holds a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Siena Heights University, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps.
Rafael Gutierrez – Longmont, Colo.
Rafael Gutierrez currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Greeley Police Department. He spent much of his career with the Greeley Police Department in various roles with increasing levels of responsibility. Gutierrez is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from the University of Colorado, and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice & law enforcement administration from Colorado State University.
