Koto Music with Yoko Hiraoka
Library Program for Families/All Ages
Stop by the library on Sunday afternoon and hear beautiful background music as you browse. Feel free to take a seat and listen, or just enjoy while you're in the library.
Yoko Hiraoka, a master musician from Japan, will be performing traditional Japanese music on the Koto, a 13 string long zither. Yoko performs some of the most beautiful Japanese melodies including modern and classical pieces as well as folk songs. The Koto, which is integral to Japanese soundscape, is made from hollowed out Paulownia wood. The Koto's thirteen woven strings stretched over bridges are plucked and strummed, setting the whole instrument into vibration with a lyrical harp-like quality.
