The Library is delighted to feature extremely talented artists from the Louisville Art Association in the Coal Creek Gallery in June.
Join us on Friday, June 2 from 6-8 PM for First Friday, featuring Perc Ens.
Perc Ens is a minimalism percussion ensemble. Inspired by composers like Steve Reich, Julius Eastman, and Terry Riley, Perc Ens performs high intensity yet low volume acoustic compositions, often described as "percussion ensemble art music" a la Dawn of Midi, Laurie Spiegel, or Horse Lords. Perc Ens has many iterations of live performance, including marimba, drum set, lights, chromatic pitched instruments, sermons, or hand percussion, all presented to showcase the melody, rhythm, and timbre of each instrument. Riding a pendulum between composition and improvisation, Perc Ens achieves moments of flourished epiphany juxtaposed against droning repetition, like a tacitly humble solo shaker.
The Coal Creek Gallery at the Louisville Public Library is a community gathering space that celebrates inclusivity and diversity by connecting the community to the arts through engaging, accessible, and enriching displays, programs, and events. We invite the community to join us for this after-hours, open-house event, fun for the whole family with live music and family crafts and activities!
