Building for the Future - Energy Code Update, Community Meeting #1

The City of Louisville is looking for input as we consider and evaluate residential and commercial building codes.

  • Date: 06/29/2022 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Louisville businesses, developers and residents are invited to an open house on Wednesday, June 29 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Louisville Public Library to discuss potential changes to building codes. Last fall, the City adopted the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) with amendments requiring all new construction to be solar-ready and electric-ready and all new residential construction to be net zero energy. Phase II of the project will consider similar code amendments for commercial new construction and adoption of all building electrification requirements for residential and commercial construction. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the proposal, projected costs and emission reductions, provide feedback and ask questions.

Register for the Community Meeting on June 29th here.

Light refreshments will be provided. Attendees may join the event anytime between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

The process of investigating net zero or all-electric options for commercial and residential new construction is in its early phases and public input on the types of policies the City should consider is of paramount importance. Code changes impact multiple sectors of the community, from building developers to businesses to tenants and homeowners. Public input will support City staff in identifying unforeseen barriers or challenges with new building code policy and will help inform where the opportunity is to drive more efficiency and climate protection in the building code.

Additionally, there will be a community survey and several other opportunities to engage with this project in July and August. Please forward this email to anyone that may be interested in the project or the community meeting on 6/29 and stay up-to-date with the project by visiting the Energy Code Update page of the Engage Louisville website.
