AARP Tax-Aide will again provide free tax return preparation and electronic filing for taxpayers of all ages with low to moderate income, with special attention to those 60 years and older.
Procedures will be different in 2021 to protect the health of everyone involved. Tax-Aide will strictly follow all safety protocols established by the Recreation & Senior Center and AARP. Everyone will wear a facial covering and keep social distance at all times. Surfaces will be cleaned regularly.
Taxpayers will begin with one 30-minute appointment. During your first appointment at the Senior Center, a Tax-Aide Counselor will schedule your second appointment, preferably for the following week.
At the first appointment, clients will fill out two forms while Tax-Aide Counselors scan tax documents into a secure computer, and return the documents. Over the next seven days, two experienced Counselors will pre-pare and review tax return at a remote location. These Counselors may call you with questions about your tax return. At your second appointment, you will sign and pick up your completed tax return. Tax-Aide will then e-file your federal and Colorado tax returns.
Available Appointments: February 8, February 22, March 8, March 22, April 5
First Appointments are available on limited Mondays at 30 minute intervals between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm on the above dates. Early in the day appointment times will be filled first.
Starting January 11, 2021, there will be two ways to schedule an appointment.
1) Schedule your first appointment at this website: https://cotaxaide.org/appt/ . On the website you will set up an account that allows you to create, modify, or delete your Tax-Aide appointment. Detailed instructions provided at the website.
(2) Call 303-335-4919 to speak to a Senior Center staff member. Please leave a message and allow time for a return phone call
At both appointments, bring photo ID, a checkbook to record routing and account numbers if you want direct deposit, Social Security cards or other documents that list full Social Security numbers for every person on your return, and all current-year tax documents (W-2, 1099, Social Security statements, year-end bank and broker statements, etc.). Last year’s tax return is helpful but not required.
