The Open Space Division is working hard to restore Hecla Lake Open Space and we need your help! Learn why noxious weed management is important during weed identification training from 6:30 to 6:45 pm and then help clip seed heads and dig up noxious weeds threatening Hecla Lake Open Space. Please bring gloves and be prepared for the elements (sunscreen, pants, hat, sunglasses, NO open-toed shoes). Volunteers will meet at the eastern entrance to the property, off of Lakespur Court.
Pulling for Louisville is a new campaign to promote citizen engagement with the Open Space Integrated Weed Management Plan and to increase hand pulling and clipping which reduces the need to use herbicides to control some of our noxious weeds. Keep an eye out for additional volunteer weed pulls scheduled in July and August.
The volunteer group size is limited to 25 people so please register by Monday, August 3rd by 5:00 pm! Volunteers will be required to maintain a 6-foot distance with anyone not in their household and wear a cloth face covering when social distancing cannot be maintained (per Louisville City Ordinance). Please stay home if you are sick.
