Meet the Preschool Program Team

lana photoMs Lana  | Director and Stepping Stones/Enrichment Teacher

I am a teacher and the director in the early learning programs, Twoodles, Building Blocks and Stepping Stones as well as Summer Day Camp at the Louisville Recreation & Senior Center for over 20 years and have enjoyed the children, families and the community connections.  My husband and I raised three children in Louisville.  I have a Bachelor's Degree from CU Boulder, have held an elementary teaching license and currently hold a Colorado Preschool Director License.  I love Louisville! When not teaching, I enjoy cooking, reading and playing with my grand-puppies!

I earned my degree in elementary education with a reading specialization from the University of Iowa. My family moved to Louisville from Iowa City, IA, in 2010, and the Louisville Rec Center quickly became my home away from home. I went from frequent patron to working in child watch, teaching CPR, and substitute teaching in the preschool classrooms. Three of my four boys have graduated from the Recreation Center preschool programs with my fourth current attending. I am excited to be a part of the program that provided my boys with the foundation they needed to start their academic journey. When I am not teaching or on mom duty, I enjoy walking with my dog, playing tennis, baking, and gardening.

I moved to Colorado in 2018 with my husband and two sons, and we have loved being part of this community.  I have a dual Master's degree in business and engineering, working corporate jobs prior to becoming a parent.  I fell in love with the early education field while volunteering for my sons' parent participation preschool, and I've been teaching and volunteering in classrooms ever since!  Currently, in addition to teaching Stepping Stones, I'm a substitute teacher with BVSD and lead a middle school fiber arts elective.  I hold an Early Childhood Educator Credential and have taken early childhood courses through Front Range Community College.  I'm excited to build connections and form relationships with all of the students!  When I'm not working or shuttling my two teenage boys to their various activities, you will find me crochet/knitting, puzzling, or reading.

I started working as a teacher at the Louisville Recreation & Senior Center in 2002. I earned my degree in Music Education from Ft. Lewis College, and have completed additional early childhood education courses through Front Range Community College over the last several years. I have lived in Boulder County since I was in high school, and have enjoyed raising my 3 children surrounded by all this community has to offer. Outside of teaching I enjoy trivia and camping!

I have lived in Louisville with my husband and two children since 2012. I have a Bachelor's degree from CU Boulder and am a licensed Early Childhood Educator.  I know firsthand how valuable the early learning program is at the Louisville Rec Center since both of my children graduated from the program (and loved it!). I feel very fortunate to work in my own community in a profession where I can form relationships and guide children at such an important stage of development. I look forward to getting to know each of the students and fostering a positive early learning experience to help build a solid foundation for their future successes. In my spare time, I enjoy camping, reading, gardening, loving on my dog and cheering on my own kiddos.

I am new to Colorado, but not new to teaching! I grew up and lived most of my life in Virginia, until last year when my husband and I decided we wanted a new adventure.  I have a Master’s Degree in Education from James Madison University, and have taught preschool through 2nd grade students for 14 years.  I have so much fun homeschooling my two elementary-aged sons, but as they get older I am missing the energy and wonder that comes with preschool environments.  I can’t wait to meet new students and families!  I love being out in nature, hiking, reading, and crafting.

Perera_2019_58 Ms Mandy | Recreation Supervisor, Youth & Teen Activities

I am from a small artist/lobstering community on the east coast and grew up in the hospitality business. I have worked at the Louisville Recreation Center since 1999. My husband and I have two boys and love the many great opportunities for families in Colorado. I feel fortunate to work with an amazing group of coworkers who are passionate about their work and care deeply for our youth and community. I have a BS in Recreation Management and I’m certified as an Early Childhood Educator.  You will mostly find me behind the scenes of preschool, supporting our staff and families, making sure all our programs for youth are running smooth. Some of my favorite pastimes are reading, traveling, and doing anything outdoors.

I live in Louisville with my husband, and we have raised three children in this community.  I attended CU Boulder where I received a Bachelor's Degree and  a teaching license in Elementary Education.  I have been teaching children for 20+ years and have always found joy in working with children and families.  I have had the pleasure of teaching at the Louisville Recreation in the early childhood program since 2010.  Things that I enjoy when I’m not working with kids is riding my bike, hiking, skiing and hanging out with my family and friends!

Testimonials

"We LOVE this program! My child is going to miss this preschool and all of her AMAZING and CARING teachers!"

"One of my favorite parts of the program is the teachers. This is my favorite part because of their patience, knowledge, good curriculum and compassion, professionalism."

"We love, love, love the Rec Center Preschool Program! It has been great for our kids - they are enthusiastic about school and learning in general. It has been such a positive experience on so many levels. We shall miss the program terribly as we are "graduating" out of it."

"We just had our parent-teacher conference for... our child's... kindergarten yesterday, and were told that she has adjusted well and started the year more proficient than a mid-year kindergartener. Pass that on to the preschool teachers- your program did her well!"

"To sum up how I feel about the Louisville Rec Center's preschool program is that it is unbelievable. As both a parent and a former teacher with a graduate degree in Elementary Education I was quite worried that because of the program's low cost that it would be a "you get what you pay for " situation. I was completely wrong! The program is a perfect balance of educational and play based program. I am shocked at how much education the teachers pack into the fun and exciting lessons. My youngest child absolutely loves going to class every day and I continue to be amazed by the activities they do. The only regret I have is not sending my oldest to this program when she was going to school."
