The Museum Coordinator researches the histories of historic buildings in Louisville and creates reports to assist the Planning Department and Historic Preservation Commission. Reports are available through the City of Louisville Digital Records Repository. Please contact the Louisville Historical Museum if you would like to find out historical information about a particular property in Louisville not listed in the Digital Records Repository.

Historic Building Surveys

In an effort to maintain a library of historical and architectural information on Louisville, the City Planning Department has commissioned historic building surveys for a portion of Old Town. Surveys are listed by street address and may also include copies of Boulder County Assessor cards originating from the 1940s. 

Please keep in mind that the buildings and sites may have undergone significant changes since these surveys were completed and owner information may no longer be current. Changes to the site may not be noted on the survey.

Assessor Cards 

In 2010-11, the Louisville Historical Museum acquired scanned images of many property appraisal records originally created by the Boulder County Assessor’s Office. These cards are currently located at the Carnegie Branch Library for Local History in Boulder. The Museum now holds digital images of 1,291 assessor cards that relate to the Louisville area. They cover the Main Street commercial area and subdivisions such as Jefferson Place, Caledonia Place, Capitol Hill, Pleasant Hill, and others. 

Louisville's County Assessor cards for 1948-1983 are available through the Museum's online collection. Use a keyword search or search for address in quote marks (e.g. "740 Front").

How to Read an Assessor Card

Assessor cards include information about the acreage and the building. The valuation of each property was assessed using checklists and information about condition.

City of Louisville Landmark Map

Louisville, Colorado was founded in 1878 and was one of the first coal mining towns in Boulder County. Louisville has grown and changed throughout the years, but has retained its small town character through its voluntary historic preservation program. The program offers property owners incentives to landmark, including grants through the local Historic Preservation Fund.

Louisville Buildings on the National Register of Historic Places 

Louisville has 12 commercial or residential buildings that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places for their historical, architectural, or cultural significance.

The City of Louisville adopted its first preservation master plan in October 2015. This plan prioritizes actions the city can take to help preservation efforts in Louisville. One of the recommendations was the development of three historic reports documenting Louisville's history: Louisville’s residential development;, Louisville’s commercial development; and Louisville’s agricultural, railroad, and mining origins. This project was approved in 2016 and finalized in 2018.
