In 2021, the City Council of Louisville, Colorado proclaimed every September as Louisville History Month! All residents of the city are urged to "be a part of the story" by increasing their understanding of Louisville’s complex and rich history. Join the Louisville Historical Museum, Louisville History Foundation, and Louisville City Council in celebrating Louisville History Month all September long by visiting the Historical Museum campus, or attending one of our programs like First Friday, a walking tour, or the base ball game!
First Friday: History Outdoors
Friday, September 6 | 6 - 8 PM | Historical Museum
The Museum campus has some new additions! Meet artist James Dixon and learn about his creation and restoration of the “Fire Vase” bronze sculpture that survived the Marshall Fire. Bring the kids and discover how children contributed to home life in the backyards of Louisville. Start your Louisville History Month off right stopping by this open house style program!
Cheers to 100 Years! Library Walking Tour
Saturday, September 7 | 9 - 10 AM | Historical Museum
Join us in celebrating 100 years of the Louisville Public Library by tracing the steps of the many locations the library has held! Learn fascinating details about the library's history from 1924 to now!
The tour will depart from the Louisville Historical Museum at 1001 Main St. This is a free in-person event, but registration is required, and will open August 1.
Legendary Ladies Historic Reenactors
Wednesday, September 11 | 6 - 7 PM |Louisville Center for the Arts
The Louisville Public Library and Louisville Historical Museum present a special evening with the Legendary Ladies. The Legendary Ladies will whisk you back in time to learn about these famous women with Colorado connections: Mother Jones, Mother Cabrini, Mary Elitch Long, and Lady Catherine Moon (aka Cussin' Kate). The Louisville Historical Museum will also discuss the impact Mother Jones and Mother Cabrini had directly on Louisville. This is a free program, but registration is required.
Louisville's Little Italy Walking Tour
September 14| 9 - 10 AM | Miners Field
Diane Marino leads this tour of Louisville's "Little Italy" neighborhood. The particularly high concentration of Italians and separation from the rest of the town due to the railroad tracks led to an especially tightknit neighborhood. Meet at the intersection of Front and Griffith Streets. This is a free, in-person event but registration is required.
September 21| 11 AM | Miners Field
Take me out to the ball game! You’re invited to this free vintage base ball game, brought back by popular demand for a fourth year! This showdown will feature historic uniforms, equipment, and game rules. Bring the whole family to enjoy America’s pastime with cracker jacks, free t-shirts (while supplies last), and photo opportunities. Special thanks to our sponsors:
Historic Trees of Louisville: Walking Tour
Saturday, Sept. 28 | 9 AM | Historical Museum
Join Chris Lichty, City Forester, as he leads a tour about historic and significant trees in Louisville. This tour is cosponsored by the Parks, Recreation, & Open Space Dept. and the Louisville Historical Museum. The tour will depart from the Louisville Historical Museum at 1001 Main St. Louisville, CO 80027. This is a free in-person event, but registration is required. Space is limited; please reserve a ticket for each attendee.
