About this Map:

This interactive map was created to pair with the Museum’s video, “Trash Talk: Louisville’s Journey Toward Sustainability,” and shows many of the coal mines that were local to Louisville, Colorado between the 1870s and 1950s.  Some mine shafts were used as landfills or dump sites after coal mining had ceased. Learn more by reading about it in the Spring 2021 Louisville Historian.

The locations on this map were determined using several sources, including the USGS – i2735 Map of Abandoned Coal Mine Workings and Shafts
